Hosted by UC Merced Library. This event is co-sponsored by the Center for Engaged Teaching and Learning (CETL) and the Center of Information Technology Research in the Interest of Society (CITRIS) at UC Merced. This event is an example-driven two-day workshop on data organization in spreadsheets, data cleaning with OpenRefine, data analysis and visualization in Python and data management with SQL taught by instructors David Yakobovitch and Lisa Cohen.
Short tutorials alternate with hands-on practical exercises, and participants are encouraged both to help one another, and to try applying what they have learned to their own research problems during and between sessions. Participants should bring their own laptop to work on. This should be a "real" laptop - not a Chromebook, tablet, etc. You should also be sure to have admin privileges on this computer.
See http://software-carpentry.org for more information about the organization.
