Teaching Matters: Developing Teaching Strategies

Description: In this four-hour practicum we shift our focus to one of the most important/fundamental skills that all university-level instructors hope to teach their students: critical thinking. We will examine the theories behind the teaching of critical thinking, and become familiar with practical methods of implementing active learning strategies to encourage critical thinking, applicable to both large and small classes, as well as cover best practices for each class size.
You may attend one or more workshops. An attendee that has participated in all four workshops within the same semester will receive a certificate.

Thursday, Feb. 25, 2016 in KL 360 - Faculty Track
Critical Thinking (10:00am-10:50am)
Active Learning Strategies (11:00am-11:50am)
Best Practices for Large Classrooms (12:30pm-1:20pm)
Best Practices for Small Group Discussion (1:30pm-2:20pm)
Note: audience cross-over is permitted, i.e., faculty and graduate students/TAs may attend either date listed. Faculty track will be presented by CETL staff members. Graduate Student/TA track will be presented by CETL's graduate student Instructional Interns.
