Teaching Matters Workshop Series - Developing Teaching Strategies
Description: In this four-hour practicum we shift our focus to one of the most important/fundamental skills that all university-level instructors hope to teach their students: critical thinking. We will examine the theories behind the teaching of critical thinking, and become familiar with practical methods of implementing active learning strategies to encourage critical thinking, applicable to both large and small classes, as well as cover best practices for each class size.
You may attend one or more workshops on one or both days. An attendee that has participated in all four workshops within the same academic year will receive a certificate.
Dates and Locations:
Wednesday, Sept. 19, 2018 in COB2-390 (Faculty Track)
Thursday, Sept. 20, 2018 in COB2-390 (Graduate Student/TA Track)
Times (same schedule for both dates):
Critical Thinking (12:00pm-12:50pm)
Active Learning Strategies (1:00pm-1:50am)
Best Practices for Large Classrooms (2:30pm-3:20pm)
Best Practices for Small Group Discussion (3:30pm-4:20pm)
Note: audience cross-over is permitted, i.e., faculty and graduate students/TAs may attend either date listed. Faculty track will be presented by CETL Associate Director, Anali Makoui, PhD. Graduate Student/TA track may be presented by CETL's graduate student Instructional Interns.
Open to: Faculty, Graduate Students, Postdoctoral Fellows, Staff. These workshops are not open to undergraduate students.
