Fundamentals for TAs

Fundamentals for TAs in Higher Education (Certificate Program)

This three-part workshop series culminates in a Certificate of Participation for those GTAs who complete the full 8 hours of training.  Part 1 began as the TA orientation during GROW.  Part 2 (2 hours) will be offered multiple times during September and October.  Part 3 (2 hours) will be offered during November and December.  GTAs who completed the previous Teaching Matters Internship program may want to attend one or more topics within each session, but will not receive a certificate of participation.

Part 1: Introduced new TAs to the following topics: Creating an inclusive learning environment; planning the first day; professionalism and communication; and providing instructive feedback.

Part 2: Introduces participants to the Role of Prior Knowledge in Learning and How to Handle Challenging Situations. Participants leave with practical strategies.

Part 3: Explores student engagement, scaffolding, and active learning techniques. Participants leave with practical strategies to implement in their classrooms.

Please see the events calendar for particular dates and times the sessions are offered each month.
